Our School, Our Story
A FREE Nebraska History Curriculum for Elementary Classrooms
Debuting in Spring 2026, Our School, Our Story is a FREE Nebraska history curriculum designed especially for elementary school teachers.
This place-based learning program invites students to explore the history of their own school and community, helping them see how local stories connect to the broader history of Nebraska.
What Students Will Learn
Through guided lessons and hands-on activities, students will:
- Discover who helped build their town and school
- Learn about notable people connected to their community
- Explore how local history fits into Nebraska’s story
- Share what they learn through creative projects and artwork
What Teachers Will Love
- FREE to all Nebraska elementary schools
- Age-appropriate, classroom-tested content
- Flexible lessons aligned with social studies learning goals
- Minimal prep with clear instructions
- Encourages creativity, inquiry, and local pride

Using Sanborn Maps in Your Classroom
Teachers who choose to use Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps as part of their lessons may be reimbursed for the $15.00 access fee. Reimbursement will be issued upon receipt.
